Nelson, B.C.
New church brings hope

H.O.P.E. (House Of Prayer for Everyone) Church held its first public worship service Sunday, September 15 in Rosemont Elementary School in Nelson, B.C. The new church is a project of the B.C. MB Conference Board of Church Extension.

Church planters Jeff and Marilyn Zak began work in March 2002. Over the summer, a core group began to reach out to the Rosemont community in Nelson through such things as food distribution and youth events, especially in public parks. A team from Columbia Bible College also offered assistance.

Sixty-eight people were present for the opening service. Nelson mayor Gary Exner cut a ribbon to declare the church officially open; incoming B.C. Conference church extension director Geoff Neufeld led a commissioning service for the pastor couple; and Jeff Zak preached on the core values of the New Testament church. After the first Sunday, attendance has averaged about 35. Two candidates are currently preparing for the church’s first baptism.
