Confessions of a novice activist

“Unfortunately for this generation of young the church has forgotten its message. And most of the church has lost its nerve. It does not wish to give offence. It would rather be nice than prophetic. Leah McLaren concluded: ‘Christian recruiters who persist in trying to make church more accessible to the young . . . have got it all wrong. Young, childless, unmarried urbanites don’t need to start loving God, we need to start fearing God. . . . The church should appeal to our sense of duty, rather than our sense of fun.’”

Ian Hunter, “A young religious skeptic offers churches a startling suggestion to attract youth”, Western Report, Jan. 22, 2001
