Abbotsford, B.C.
ACTS graduates record number

The 14th annual commencement exercises of the Associated Canadian Theological Schools, of which Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary is a partner, took place April 20 at Central Heights MB Church in Abbotsford, B.C. Seventy ACTS graduates received their diplomas, the largest graduating class of the consortium to date. MB Biblical Seminary President Henry Schmidt participated in the program.

This was the first year that MBBS had students graduating from ACTS with an MBBS diploma. The graduates will be entering a variety of ministries. John Andres (Master of Religious Education) will be pursuing a position as youth pastor. John Best (Master of Divinity) expects to be involved in overseas development work. David Chow (Master of Divinity) will become associate pastor at Killarney Park MB Church in Vancouver on August 1. Randy Lebold and David Lindsay (both graduates of the Masters of Applied Linguistics and Exegesis program) will be working with the Canadian Institute of Linguistics (CANIL) this summer. Cheng-Wen Liang (Master of Religious Education), a student from a Mennonite church in Taiwan, will continue to pastor a Chinese church in Bellingham, Wash. Susan Merz (Master of Counselling) is currently considering a counselling position. Sylvia Nickel (Master of Divinity), who took the bulk of her work in Fresno, and her husband Wally, also a student at ACTS, are exploring a team pastoral ministry in British Columbia. Takahito Yoshiyuki (Diploma in Christian Studies) will continue to pastor a Mennonite Japanese church in Surrey, B.C. Alice Yu (Master of Counselling) is planning to use her skills in the church or community. David Zimmerman (Master of Arts in Christian Studies) and his wife Marlene have accepted a mission assignment in northeast Africa.
