Previous | Next Langley, B.C. Canadian seminary students receive scholarships

MB Biblical Seminary President Henry Schmidt was on the ACTS campus, Langley, B.C., on November 29 to participate in a luncheon for MBBS-BC students at ACTS. He also presented scholarships to several students.

John Best, a Master of Divinity student, was the recipient of the Helen Janz Memorial Mission Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to full-time Canadian students preparing for global missions.
Best has already had considerable experience in missions. He has been in Austria working with Bosnian refugees, served with Youth With A Mission in Canada, the US and Mexico, and served with Church Partnership Evangelism in Malawi and Congo. He is active in South Abbotsford MB Church in Abbotsford, B.C., and participates in several choral groups and professional choirs. His goal is to serve in missions internationally.

The scholarship is named after Helen Janz, who worked and trained as a nurse in southern Alberta and in London, England. She worked in Coaldale Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1977. Although she was not a missionary, Janz had a heart for missions. She died in 1995 at age 84.

Jennie Ip was the recipient of the MBBS Multicultural Leadership Scholarship. This scholarship symbolizes the Seminarys awareness and commitment to leadership training in an increasingly diverse context. Ip studied at Beijing Language and Culture University. Shortly after arriving in Canada, she became a Christian and has been active in a number of Chinese churches in Edmonton and Vancouver. She also has been a Mandarin-language instructor in Edmonton and at Simon Fraser University. MB Biblical Seminary release
