Philippe Bonicel has completed his ministry as pastor of Église chrétienne évangélique de Sainte-Rose, Que., after serving for 11 years. He and his wife Marie-France have three children, Sébastien, Mélody and Marc-André. His future plans are indefinite.

Tofield (Alta.) Gospel Church held an installation service for interim senior pastor couple Henry and Annabelle Wiebe on Oct. 7. Abe Konrad, Alberta MB Conference minister, officiated at the installation service. Wiebe began serving the church on Sept. 2. Previously, he was interim pastor at Warman (Sask.) MB Church for two years, was a pastor with the Chortitzer Mennonite Conference in B.C. for three years, and was area director and counsellor with Burden Bearers of Canada in Fort St. John, B.C. for 12 years. He is a registered clinical counsellor with the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors. The Wiebes have six grown children and five grandchildren.



Port Rowan (Ont.) MB Church held an ordination service for senior pastor couple Sandy and Muriel Young on Nov. 25. Ontario MB Conference minister Mark Johnson officiated at the ordination service. The Youngs began serving the church on Apr. 1, 2000. He has a B.Th. from Ontario Bible (now Tyndale) College and a B.A. from the University of Waterloo and previously pastored in Olivet Baptist Church in Verdan, Que., First Baptist Church in Port Hope, Ont. and Wheatley (Ont.) Baptist Church. The Youngs have one grown son, Alistair.

Yeol Jang is serving a pastoral internship at Deaf Community Christian Church in Burnaby, B.C. under the B.C. MB Conference Pastoral Apprenticeship program. He is being mentored by pastor Rudy Unger and is adjusting to Canadian culture and sign language. Jang, who came to Canada in 2001, has done various ministries in Korea and has studied at a Bible college and seminary in Korea. He is married to Jin.



Sounds of Freedom, a ladies’ trio from Port Rowan (Ont.) MB Church, celebrated the release of their first CD with a special concert there on Nov. 10. The group has become widely known in southern Ontario. They began performing together in 1997.

Twenty-five people participated in an orientation held at Mennonite Central Committee headquarters in Akron, Pa. Nov. 6–16. Ten are beginning overseas assignments; 15 are beginning North American assignments. Dan and Karen Giesbrecht of Winnipeg are beginning a two-year assignment in Winnipeg with Habitat for Humanity. Dan will be the project coordinator and work in family support. Karen will be the support coordinator and work with family selection. Previously, Dan was a carpenter for New Life Ministries in Winnipeg; he has served with Canadian University Students Overseas in the Solomon Islands. Karen has previously served with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Darwin, Australia. She has a certificate in conflict resolution from Mediation Services in Winnipeg. They attend Crossroads MB Church in Winnipeg and are members of South Park MB Church in Altona, Man. David McLauren of Abbotsford, B.C. is beginning an assignment in Abbotsford as director of resources development. Previously, he pastored Indo–Canadian Community Church, Surrey, B.C. He and his wife Sharmila attend Bakerview MB Church in Abbotsford and are members of Kennedy Heights MB Church in Delta, B.C. They have two children, Samantha and Michelle. Ruth Plett of Winnipeg is beginning a one-year assignment as a receptionist and switchboard operator for MCC Canada in Winnipeg. She attends the University of Winnipeg. Previously, she was a counsellor and recreational staff worker for Mary Duncan in Stouffville, Ont. She attends Fort Garry MB Church in Winnipeg.



Darrell D. Jantzi of Elmira, Ont. has accepted the newly created position of resource generator for Mennonite Central Committee Ontario. His role will be to strengthen MCCO’s donor base. He has a B.A. from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va. and an M.Div. from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ont. Previously, he was business and office manager for Mennonite Media Ministries and pastored several churches in Ontario, including Ayr, Kitchener, Brantford, Elora, Chesley and, most recently, Millbank. He began in sales and marketing with Forbes Motors in 1957, working in both Kitchener and Elmira. He is a founding board member of the J. Steckle Heritage Homestead in Kitchener and is currently serving as vice-president. In 2000, he received an Ontario Voluntary Service Award.



Baptisms and new members

Jubilee Mennonite Church in Winnipeg baptized four people and welcomed into its fellowship on Nov. 25: Justin Bage, Andrea Braun, Jacquie Loewen and Leanne Paetkau.

On Dec. 9, Dalhousie Community Church in Calgary baptized and welcomed Richard Plummer into its fellowship.
