Cancer, be not proud!

George Quiring

Cancer, you’re a ruthless monster
Out only to destroy.
You tear and crush and cause great pain;
Any method you employ.

You have no respect for age or status,
Reaching out to old and young,
And if it were within your power,
You would silence every song.

You can do much, so very much;
So merciless you are.
Yet in the end it’s very clear
You cannot do it all.

You cannot break the bond of love
Between a man and wife.
You cannot rob us of the
Hope we have in Jesus Christ!

You cannot separate us
From God’s eternal love.
You cannot shut the door
To all of Heaven above.

What you think is victory
Is really your defeat.
It merely opens wide the door
To Heaven’s banquet feast.

So just back off;
The final victory is not yours.
Certain hope is ours,
Eternal bliss secured.

George Quiring lives in Edmonton, Alta. His wife Elvira passed away of cancer March 19, 2000.
