Grant challenge offers to complete MB journal’s web site project

An anonymous friend of the Mennonite Brethren academic journal, Direction, has offered a challenge grant of $1000 US to accelerate completion of the journal’s web site project.

Operational since mid-April 2000, the site (www.directionjournal.org) has been averaging nearly 60 visits per day. The site plays an important role for those who have been called to ministry but have limited access to libraries or seminaries and especially for those who live in areas with little or no Anabaptist/Evangelical presence. Currently, the user-friendly site has a comprehensive index. All issues from the mid-1990s to the present are available at the site, with those from the early 1990s expected soon. Issues extending back to Direction’s inception in 1972 will also be added, but progress in digitizing and posting has been slowed due to funding issues.

Beginning in October 2001 and continuing for 12 months, all contributions to the web site fund (which are tax-deductible) will be matched dollar for dollar up to $1000 US. If the full amount of this challenge is realized, the project may be completed by the end of 2002. Progress reports will be posted periodically on the site.

Those interested in contributing may contact Direction’s managing editor Marilyn Hudson for details: Direction Journal Challenge Grant, 4-169 Riverton Ave., Winnipeg, Man. R2L 2E5.
