Brent and Carmen Esau were commissioned Sept. 23 as part-time pastor couple of student ministries at Gateway Christian Fellowship, St. Catharines, Ont. Previously, Brent taught Grade 8 in a private Christian school in Burlington, Ont. for a year-and-a-half, was a youth leader in Scott Street MB Church, St. Catharines, for two years and served with Carmen on a Youth Mission International TREK assignment in Halifax for a year. Carmen works part-time at Niagara Life Centre, St. Catharines, counselling expectant and new mothers. Brent has a B.A. from Brock University in St. Catharines and an M.A. in New Testament from MB Biblical Seminary in Fresno, Calif. Carmen has a B.A. from Brock. They have two children, Haley, 2, and Josiah, 6 months.



Andrew Fehr has resigned as pastor of Carrot River (Sask.) MB Gospel Mission, effective Jan. 13, 2002, having then served for 10-and-a-half years. On Feb. 1, 2002, he will begin serving as minister of evangelism/associate pastor at West Portal MB Church in Saskatoon. Previously, he drove truck in Abbotsford, B.C. He grew up in East Aldergrove MB (now Ross Road Community) Church, Abbotsford. He has a B.R.E. from Briercrest Bible College in Caronport, Sask. He and his wife Helen have four children, Matthew, 15, Christina, 12, Kimberley, 10, and Brian, 8.



Gerry Derksen began serving as interim pastor of River East MB Church in Winnipeg on Oct. 15. Previously, he was coordinator of student life at Canadian Mennonite University for two years, was director of student services at Concord/MB Bible College in Winnipeg for 10 years and served with MBMS International in Democratic Republic of Congo for three years. He has a B.R.S. from MB Bible College, a B.A. from the University of Winnipeg and an M.Div. from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Ind. Recently, he did chaplaincy training for a year through the Winnipeg Health Science Centre. He and his wife Marg have three children, Kevin, 16, Lisa, 14, and Joel, 10.



Heinz and Edith Ratzlaff have accepted a call to serve as associate pastor couple at Clearbrook MB Church in Abbotsford, B.C., effective Jan. 1, 2002. Previously, he pastored Valleycliffe Christian Fellowship in Squamish, B.C. for two years, Salem Evangelical Church in Calgary for three years and Highland MB Church in Calgary for six years, and taught at Mennonite Educational Institute in Abbotsford, in the Chilliwack, B.C. area and in Squamish. He has a B.Ed. from the University of British Columbia, an M.A. from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash. and an M.Div. from MB Biblical Seminary in Fresno, Calif. Edith has an M.A. in Christian education from MB Biblical Seminary. They have four grown children and one grandson.



R. Paul “Bud” Jackson began serving as part-time missions pastor at Central Heights MB Church in Abbotsford, B.C. on Oct. 1, as the church entered into a “strategic alliance” with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM). Jackson, who is the west coast regional director and missions mobilizer for TEAM, receives his salary from TEAM. He will be assisting the church in promoting local and global missions. He was born in Zimbabwe and trained as a teacher. He and his wife Mandy, who was born in South Africa and raised in Zimbabwe, have served as missionaries in Zimbabwe for 19 years. He has a B.A. in Bible and missions from Southern Methodist College. The Jacksons have two children, Heath, 22, and Erin, 21.



Mark and Faith Siebert were installed as youth pastor couple at Vauxhall (Alta.) MB Church on Sept. 30. The Sieberts began serving Aug. 1. Previously, Mark served part-time as youth pastor at La Glace (Alta.) Bible Fellowship, his home church, and worked part-time for Eldor Trusses in Sexsmith, Alta. He has a B.R.E. from Peace River Bible Institute in Sexsmith. Faith has a Bachelor of Biblical Studies degree from Peace River.

Tim Bartsch began serving as youth pastor at Cedar Park MB Church in Delta, B.C. on Aug. 28. Previously, he was worship pastor at Cariboo Bethel MB Church in Williams Lake, B.C. for two years and was part of a Youth Mission International TREK mobilization team, travelling across Canada and the US for nine months. He has a B.A. from Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford, B.C. He and his wife Robin are expecting their first child in January.

Promontory Community Church in Chilliwack, B.C. baptized and welcomed into its fellowship six new members Sept. 23: Loren Bergen, Tracy Bergen, Gary Fast, Val Fast, Brenda Human and Ashley Horsman.

River West Christian Church in Edmonton welcomed 13 new members Dec. 17, 2000, May 27, 2001 and June 17, 2001, 4 by baptism, 4 by transfer and 5 by confession of faith.
