Jeanette Petkaus Beyond Reason is comprised of 11 original songs with sincere, heartfelt lyrics and skilfully crafted music. Talented producer/ arranger Chris Janz wrote the music to all these songs; he co-wrote the lyrics to eight of the selections with Petkau and wrote the other three solo.

Petkau has a beautiful clear voice. The harmonies, especially in the choruses, are gorgeous. The instrumentation has intricate musical lines and fun, exciting rhythm. The style is contemporary and has a soft rock sound, making it appealing to a wide age range, from youth and young adults to baby boomers. One of the pieces has a Celtic flavour, which I enjoyed. I appreciated the quality of musicianship and that the chord patterns and rhythmic lines were not always predictable and not boring.

Petkau has a heart for ministry. The lyrics in these songs tell of a deep and growing relationship with God, learning from the hard times and striving onward. They are personal, most of them sung directly to God. I identified with them and was strengthened in my faith. Having reviewed this CD right after I lost my father to a battle with cancer, I found it encouraged and comforted me and reinforced that God is in control. I highly recommend this album. It touched my heart.

Petkau attends North Langley Community Church in Langley, B.C. On the CD jacket, she thanks Jesus for what He has done and is doing in her life. She urges all who listen to this CD to learn and know what it is to trust beyond reason.
