August Konkel began serving as president of Providence College and Seminary in Otterburne, Man. on July 1, 2001.

Born in 1948 in Theodore, Sask., Konkel grew up on a farm in a Christian home. His early ministry included working with Canadian Sunday School Mission camps and pastoring the Associated Gospel Church in Kelfield, Sask. He pastored Bethel Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Winkler, Man. 197182 and has taught at Winkler Bible Institute and Winnipeg Theological Seminary.

He is a graduate of Briercrest Bible Institute in Caronport, Sask., and has a B.R.E. from Winnipeg Bible College, an M.Div. as well as a Ph.D. from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia.

His professional accomplishments include serving as translator for the book of Job in the New Living Translation, writing a commentary on Job and contributing to the New International Dictionary of Old Testament Theology and Exegesis. Currently, he is working on the NIV Application Commentary for the book of Kings and the Believers Church Bible Commentary for Chronicles.

Konkel and his wife Esther have four grown children and live in St. Pierre, Man. from a release
