Doug Schultz has accepted a call to pastor Vineland (Ont.) MB Church, effective in September. Most recently, he served as a hospital chaplain, was a grief counsellor and did other community ministries in Ladner, B.C. for four years. Previously, he pastored Cedar Park MB Church in Ladner for five years, taught at MB Collegiate Institute in Winnipeg for five years, was registrar at MB Bible College in Winnipeg for two years, did a pastoral internship at Vineland MB Church for one year and taught at Beacon Christian High School in St. Catharines, Ont. for four years. He has a B.R.E. from Briercrest Bible College in Caronport, Sask., a B.R.S. from MBBC, a B.A. from the University of Winnipeg, a B.Ed. from the University of Western Ontario and an M.Div. from Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Ind. His wife Annie, who grew up in the Vineland church, is a piano teacher. They have three children, Heidi, 20, David, 19, and Tim, 17.
Bob Friesen began serving as interim pastor at Arnold Community Church in Abbotsford, B.C. Aug. 1. Previously, he was senior pastor at Broadway MB Church in Chilliwack, B.C. for 20 years and was associate pastor at Bakerview MB Church in Abbotsford for two years. He has an M.Div. from MB Biblical Seminary in Fresno, Calif. and a B.Sc. from Simon Fraser University. He and his wife Joy have two grown children, Cynthia and Jeremy.
Morris Mckenzie began serving as pastor of outreach at Northview Community Church in Abbotsford, B.C. on July 1. For the past six years, he was adult pastor at the church, responsible for mens and singles ministries and marriage counselling. Previously, he was a youth pastor in a Plymouth Brethren church. He has studied at Associated Canadian Theological Seminaries in Langley, B.C. He and his wife Mary have three children, Meaghan, 15, Matthew, 13, and Michelle, 11, and are in the process of adopting an 11-year-old Haitian girl, Nadiege.
Herman Plett began serving as pastor of Niagara Falls (Ont.) Christian Fellowship Aug. 1. He resigned as senior pastor of College Drive Community Church in Lethbridge, Alta. in May after serving six-and-a-half years. Previously, he was associate pastor at Forest Grove Community Church in Saskatoon for four years and pastored National Capital Community Church in Ottawa for three-and-a-half years and Evergreen Heights Christian Fellowship in Simcoe, Ont. for nine years. He has a B.Th. from Emmanuel Bible College in Kitchener, Ont. He and his wife Cheryl have three grown children, Heidi (married to Sam) Dick, Andrew and Heather.
Cory Lizotte began serving as pastor of Northgate MB Church in Dawson Creek, B.C. on July 18. This spring, he completed a B.R.S. at Tyndale Bible College in Toronto. He worked at a Salvation Army shelter in downtown Toronto January to June. He is from Dawson Creek, where he previously managed a computer store. He is married to Kathryn.
Phil Reimer has resigned as associate pastor at Highland MB Church in Calgary, effective Aug. 31, after serving for six years. Beginning Sept. 1, he will be working as an apprentice church planter with Ridgeview Community Church in Calgary for six to nine months. Previously, he was associate pastor at Scott Street MB Church in St. Catharines, Ont. for five years. He has a B.Th. from MB Bible College in Winnipeg and a B.A. in psychology from the University of Winnipeg. He and his wife Jackie have three children, Ashley, 15, Curtis, 13, and Kyle, 10.
Paul and Melody Loewen are serving as church planters of Alderbrook Community Church in west Abbotsford, B.C. Previously, Paul was pastor of singles and leadership development at New Covenant Community Church in Fresno, Calif. for two years and was college and career pastor at Forest Grove Community Church in Saskatoon for five years. He has an M.Div. from MB Biblical Seminary in Fresno and is working towards a mediation certificate from Fresno Pacific University. The Loewens have three children, Andrew, 15, David, 12, and Simon, 8. The church is expecting to start regular worship services Sept. 16 at Dave Kandal School.
Ray Ulriksen began serving as pastor at Kelstern (Sask.) Community Church on July 1. Previously, Ray worked for Blessings Christian Marketplace in Edmonton for eight-and-a-half years, did pulpit supply and taught Sunday school. He has 23 years of pastoral experience with the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, serving in Cornac, Sask., Yorkton, Sask., Manitou, Man., Grand Centre, Alta., Medicine Hat, Alta. and Morinville, Alta. He has a B.R.E. from Canadian Bible College in Regina, and both Ray and his wife Iris have diplomas from Briercrest Bible School in Caronport, Sask. The Ulriksens have three children and two grandchildren.
Twenty-two workers participated in a leadership seminar held at Mennonite Central Committee headquarters in Akron, Pa., May 29June 9. Eighteen are beginning overseas assignments; four are beginning North American assignments. Rob and Helen Enns of Calgary are beginning a one-year assignment in Bangladesh, where Rob will be interim country representative. Previously, Rob was as an international development consultant, and Helen was director and physiotherapist with the P.A.C.E. rehabilitation program in Calgary; they have served with MCC in Bangladesh, Alberta and Manitoba. Rob has a masters degree from the University of Manitoba; Helen has a bachelor of physical therapy degree from the University of Manitoba. They have three children, Chris, Matt and Shawnti, and are members of Dalhousie Community Church in Calgary.
Ionka Hristozova is serving as Mennonite Central Committee Manitoba refugee coordinator and International Visitor Exchange Program (IVEP) coordinator. IVEP is a cultural and vocational exchange program that brings people from about 30 countries to Canada and the US for one year. A former refugee herself, Hristozova helps Mennonite churches and groups sponsor other refugees to come to Canada. She was a newspaper journalist in Bulgaria, but fled to Germany, landing in a refugee camp. In 1997, she came to Winnipeg with her two sons. She replaces Ed Wiebe, who coordinated the MCC Manitoba refugee/IVEP programs since 1987. He and his wife Elnora, who worked in MCC Canadas financial department, moved to Belgrade, Serbia in July for a three-year MCC assignment. They are serving with Bread of Life, a Baptist and Pentecostal relief agency working with displaced people and refugees of the 10-year Balkan conflict.

On March 4, Living Hope Church, a church plant in Saskatoon, baptized and welcomed into its fellowship Cheryl Larner, Karen Loeppky, Jaron Willems, Nikki Neufeld, Lindsay Turner and Laurel Baillie.

Dalmeny (Sask.) Community Church baptized and welcomed into its fellowship nine new members on Easter Sunday, Apr. 15: John Daum, Ellen Daum, Doug Daum, Barb Crawford, Kim Fehr, Caitlin Friesen, Tim Sawatzky, Dustyn Friesen and Greg Sawatzky.
