Abbotsford, B.C.
Pastor passes in church

Picture
Peter J. Klassen, senior pastor of Clearbrook MB Church in Abbotsford, B.C., passed away Sunday, June 10 after suffering a heart attack in church. He had preached in the German worship service, then led the English service. He was sitting on stage while associate pastor Eldon DeFehr preached in the English service when he suddenly became ill. He was helped from the stage, then collapsed. He regained consciousness briefly but passed away in an ambulance en route to hospital.

Klassen had been at the church since October 1999. He had previously pastored Bridgeway Community Church in Swift Current, Sask., Christian Fellowship Chapel near Orillia, Ont. and Cornerstone Community Church in Virgil, Ont.

He is mourned by his wife Betty, and two children.
