Scott and Natalie Koop have resigned as youth pastor couple at Steinbach (Man.) MB Church, effective June 30, after serving for four years. They both studied at Winkler (Man.) Bible School. They have two children, Spencer, 5, and Marissa, 1. Scott is planning to further his education. The Koops are open to further ministry.



David Lee has been serving as half-time assistant youth pastor in Willingdon Church, Burnaby, B.C. since July 2000, after serving in the Church as a youth worker to Korean-speaking students for two-and-a-half years. He is also pursuing an M.Div. from Regent College, Vancouver. Previously, he worked with Kids Street, a joint children’s ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ and Broadway Church in Vancouver. He has a B.A. from Northwest Baptist Theological College in Langley, B.C. He is engaged to Michele Kim; they plan to marry June 9.

Rob and Silvia Brynjolfson were reaffirmed in March as part-time co-pastors of the Spanish ministries in Willingdon Church, Bunarby, B.C., positions they have held since June 2000. They also are missionaries for Worldwide Evangelization for Christ (WEC) International and program directors at its training facility in Langley, B.C. Rob has a B.R.E. from Northwest Baptist Theological College and an M.Div. from Regent College; he is a D.Min. candidate at Trinity International University, Deerfield, Ill. Silvia has a B.Th. from a Bible college in Buenos Aires, Argentina and an M.Div. from Regent. They have three children, Karis, 11, Wally, 10, and David, 7.



Walter Patterson is serving as quarter-time pastor of the Japanese ministry in Willingdon Church, Burnaby, B.C. He also works with people with special needs. Previously, he was interim pastor at Meguim Baptist Church in Vancouver for one-and-a-half years and was pastor at Yodobashi Church in Tokyo for two-and-a-half years. He has a B.R.E. from Northwest Baptist Theological College. He and his wife Chikako have three children, Andrew, 10, Kristina, 8, and Rachel, 6.



John Jang began serving as part-time assistant pastor of Korean ministries at Willingdon Church, Burnaby, B.C., on Feb. 1. He also is pursuing an M.Div. from Regent College. He has a B.A. from Sung Kun Kwan University in Seoul, Korea and has studied at Youth With A Mission’s School of Biblical Studies in Hawaii. He and his wife Grace have two children, John, 16, and Christina, 14.



Timothy Wang is serving a two-year pastoral apprenticeship in Mandarin language ministries in Willingdon Church, Burnaby, B.C. He also is pursuing an M.Div. from Regent College. He has a B.Sc. in physics from the University of British Columbia.



Dr. Henry Friesen of Winnipeg received the 2001 Gairdner Foundation Wightman Award for his leadership in Canadian medical research. The Toronto-based foundation, which recognizes international achievement in medical science, acknowledged Friesen’s work in establishing a new research agency, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Friesen is currently chair of Genome Canada.
