To my husbands birth mother

I want to thank you for choosing life over death for your child. What a brave, strong, wise young woman you must have been to choose adoption over abortion! My understanding is that you were about 18 years old and from a small town when you went to the city and ended up pregnant. You then were sent to live with your aunt in the Vancouver area, where you gave birth to a baby boy on August 16, 1971 at Lions Gate Hospital. My understanding also is that you were able to choose the family that adopted your son. You made all the right choices!

As a mother myself, I could not imagine going almost 30 years not knowing if my child was okay. I believe you deserve this letter, and I hope that God has given you peace about your choices all these years. I want you to know that your son is a man any mother would be proud of. He has had a great life, filled with a lot of love.

He was raised in a good Christian home, did well in school and enjoyed sports and music. He knows the Lord personally and was baptized at 18. He has been an active church member, working wherever there has been a need. He is a happily married man and a proud father. He has everything that you have probably wished and hoped for him.

He has never searched for you, and probably never will. At times, he is somewhat curious about his medical history, but his life is good and he feels complete. He is grateful for the choices you made and has no hard feelings toward you, just complete understanding that you loved him so much that you wanted the best for him. He also realizes how much of a sacrifice you made.

You gave your son life, and you chose a good life for him. For that, we (your son, his wife, his children, and his family) thank you.

We may never meet here on earth, but may this letter give you peace and comfort until the day we all meet in heaven. May God bless you.

Love in Christ,

Your sons wife
