Colson gives solid answers to teens’ questions

Michael Dyck

Answers To Your Kids’ Questions
Charles W. Colson. Wheaton, Ill.: Tyndale House Publishers, 2000. 210 pp., softcover.

I have often felt that Charles Colson’s writings don’t apply to me or to the youth I minister to. But, after reading this book, I have to say that I may have been wrong.

Colson, the founder and chairman of Prison Fellowship Ministries, and the author of several books, draws the premise of this book from Deuteronomy 11:9: “Teach them (God’s precepts) to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

Coming up with answers to today’s questions can be tough  even for the well-educated. With an ever-growing, opposing ideology to Christianity by our culture and media, today’s teens face issues that I never did.

In this well laid-out book, Colson provides answers to questions ranging from the existence and relevance of God, to sex and marriage, hitting on many of today’s current issues. Using everyday language, he counters the most common arguments opposed to the Christian mindset with solid reasons, drawing from personal, biblical and secular sources.

This book is a great resource for parents, youth workers, pastors and anyone looking for answers to some of life’s questions.

Michael Dyck is associate pastor of youth and young adults at Elmwood MB Church in Winnipeg.
