Coleman Neufeld named director of MCC’s Canadian programs

Mennonite Central Committee Canada has named Lois Coleman Neufeld director for Canadian programs.

Neufeld and her husband Rob currently live in Lusaka, Zambia, where she directs MCC’s work in Zambia and he directs the MCC Angola program.

She assumes her new position at the MCC office in Winnipeg on May 7, 2001.

She has about 17 years of development work experience in Africa. Prior to their volunteer stint with MCC, the Neufelds served for 11 years with MBMS International in what is now Democratic Republic of Congo.

David Dyck, executive director of MCC Canada, said MCC is pleased to offer the position to a woman. “We were able to carry through on our commitment to provide leadership positions for women.”

Neufeld is currently working on a master’s degree in non-profit management from Eastern College in Philadelphia.

As director of Canadian programs, Neufeld will supervise the Peace and Justice Group, (including the Peace and Economic Justice office), Aboriginal Neighbours and Economic Development, Victims’ Voice, Restorative Justice, Refugee Assistance, Mental Health & Disability Network, and Women’s Network. She also will be responsible for MCC’s work in Eastern Canada.

The director for Canadian programs is a new position, but carries many of the same responsibilities as the former associate executive director. Dale Taylor left that position in August 2000 for a new job in Calgary.

Neufeld will have four months overlap with Dyck before he resigns in August, to help deepen her knowledge of MCC’s work in Canada.

The Neufelds have two children and are members of Highland Mennonite Brethren Church in Calgary.
