Son Rise

Lora Janzen

(John 21:1-14, Psalm 30:5)

When I
drift in
darkness
of night
frantically
fishing on
blackened sea, striving naked in the frigid air, sweat rivers
winding down my stinging spine, gaining momentum from my
increasing failure, the fervour of my futile effort proves past
patterns
must
perish
With the
approach
of dawn
disappoint
ment
breaks
Bones
burning
spirit
spent
finally
ready to
relinquish
my empty
net I return
to land as
dawn invades
a darkened sky

Will Jesus meet me at the shore
after my agonizing unproductive night
and with the presence of His light
change the outcome of my futile fight?
Will He tend the fire on the sand
fry the fish and bake the bread?
Will He beckon with His printed hand
Come for breakfast and be fed
The night is past  My work was done
Enjoy now the presence of the Risen Son!

Lora Janzen lives in Kelowna, B.C.
