Letters Letters to the editor

Mennonite Brethren Herald welcomes your letters on issues relevant to the Mennonite Brethren Church, especially in response to material published in the Herald. Please keep your letters courteous, brief and about one subject only. We will edit letters for length and clarity. We will not publish letters sent anonymously, although we may withhold names from publication at the request of the letter writer and at our discretion. Publication is also subject to space limitations. Because the Letters column is a free forum for discussion, it should be understood that letters represent the position of the letter writer, not necessarily the position of the Herald or the Mennonite Brethren Church. Send letters to:

    Letters, MB Herald
    3-169 Riverton Ave.
    Winnipeg, Man. R2L 2E5

or by e-mail to mbherald@mbconf.ca. (Please ensure that your postal address is included in your e-mail correspondence.)

Correction

The report of the Canadian MB Conference board meetings (March 2) was very informative. There is one error that may cause some confusion. The report states that the two national conferences are working with the divestiture of Kindred Productions and MB Biblical Seminary. They are not working with Kindred Productions per se but with the Board of Resource Ministries, of which Kindred is a part.

Marilyn Hudson,
Kindred Productions,
Winnipeg, Man.

Is there a better way?

Though I commend the staff of the Herald on a fine magazine, in this age of “recycle and reuse”, I wonder whether we could implement a little more of that regarding the Herald. As a mother of four young children, I do not read the Herald from cover to cover. I have also heard of students who receive it but rarely read any of it, and others who read some but not all of it. As a member of Winkler MB Church, I realize that the payment for the subscriptions comes out of our Conference dues. To minimize waste I suggest one of the following:

  • 1.a. Allow those that read the Herald cover to cover to indicate that they wish to continue receiving it at their home address by sending in a reply card found in an upcoming issue;

  • 1.b. Send a number of copies of the Herald to each church library, where members could take it out and return it when they were done reading it (those that read it sporadically could indicate on the reply card that they wish to receive it via their church library); or

  • 2. Have whoever wished to receive a copy of the Herald buy a subscription (As each member is already indirectly buying a subscription through Conference dues, this would eliminate the necessity of sending Conference dues to the Herald).
I would rather that my tithe go towards missions than towards a complimentary magazine subscription that perhaps someone is not reading.

Alma Brown,
Winkler, Man.

Herald useful

I enjoy your issues. I use many of the Bible study, poetry and sermon issues in my own presentations. You have a good journal, and it is not a waste or just another magazine in my busy life. From national-international blurbs to cartoons and poems, Jesus is featured in such a way that I can use what you include. That justifies all your hard work. The call of the Lord is very strong in your magazine.

Pastor Glenn Koons,
Living Hope Church,
Downey, Calif.
