REFLECTIONS
The company we keep

Jean Cox

1 Corinthians 15:33

Have you ever thought of how relationships affect our feelings, beliefs and behaviour all through life?

Nice, wholesome girls came into my business education classes in senior high school. Their manners were good and their dress moderate. With some, I observed changes take place. Not only their dress changed, but also their attitude and work habits.

One day, I noticed a girl carry a record in with her books. I’ll call her Sally. Her picture was on the cover. She was bound in barbed wire. Sally told me that she had become lead singer for a group.

Are we conscious of the fact that who we keep company with can profoundly affect our life? We make friends through recreation, school and work. When these friends get close to us, they can influence the way we think and ultimately what we do.

1 Corinthians 15:33 says: “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’ ”

Reflections is a column of brief reflections on Scripture passages. This one is by Jean Cox from Vernon, B.C. Freelance submissions for Reflections (200-250 words in length) are welcome.
