This issue of the MB Herald focuses on MBMS International, the international mission agency of Mennonite Brethren. The feature articles in this issue were jointly commissioned and prepared by the Herald and The Christian Leader, periodical of the US MB Conference. The decision to focus on MBMSI was taken for several reasons:

- Mission, outreach and evangelism are a core Mennonite Brethren belief. From the beginning, we have believed that people are lost and need the salvation found only in Jesus Christ. We also believe that it is our responsibility, as Gods servants, to preach this good news about Jesus to all nations.

- This year, MBMSI celebrated its 100th anniversary. Largely due to the work of MBMSI, Mennonite Brethren have grown from a small immigrant group in the US and Canada to a worldwide denomination with 250,000 members in 20 countries, making Mennonite Brethren the largest Mennonite denomination in the world.

- MBMSI is in transition. This past summer, responsibility for MBMSI was transferred from the General (North American) MB Conference, which is disbanding, to the US and Canadian MB Conferences. It is expected that within a few years, other national MB Conferences may also become full partners in MBMSI.

- Our world is rapidly changing, and mission agencies such as MBMSI face many challenges as they seek to reach this rapidly changing world with the gospel. We thought it would be helpful for North American Mennonite Brethren to consider some of these changes and challenges and to recommit themselves to reaching a lost world with the good news of Jesus Christ.
