Dartmouth, N.S.
Cornerstone Community Church closes

Cornerstone Community Church in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, is closing, effective November 25, 2000, after having a ministry in that community for 33 years.

The Mennonite Brethren congregation made the decision to disband after months of agonizing and prayer. The church began as a pastoral resource to many Mennonite Brethren and Mennonite Central Committee personnel in the 1960s and 70s. The transient flavour of these workers characterized this congregation during this time, but it took on a dominant local flavour in the 1990s.

The congregation has had a significant sending ministry as many of its former members are currently active leaders in churches across North America and around the world. Over the years, the church has been on and off subsidy support of the Canadian MB Conference Board of Evangelism.

The church’s final service will be a “service of celebration” to God for its 33 years of ministry to the many people who have come to Christ and have made significant growth decisions.

 – Ewald Unruh, Board of Evangelism
