Aubrey Krahn resigned as pastor of Newton (Man.) Community Fellowship Church, effective Oct. 22, after serving as youth pastor for three years and then lead pastor for seven years. He has a B.R.E. from MB Bible (Concord) College in Winnipeg. He and his wife Eileen have two sons, Aaron, 10, and Michael, 7. They are open to further ministry.



Michael Roth began serving a one-year pastoral internship at Valleyview Bible Church, Kamloops, B.C., on Oct. 1 through the B.C. MB Conference Pastoral Apprenticeship program. His focus is mainly on youth work. Last year, he worked with the youth at the church on a voluntary basis. He has also worked in automobile painting for 1 year, worked as a janitor for 2 years and worked in construction for 1 year.



Dorothy Wiebe began serving a one-year pastoral internship at North Peace MB Church in Fort St. John, B.C. on Sept. 1 through the B.C. MB Conference Pastoral Apprenticeship program. She will be working in the areas of youth and children. Previously, she worked as a store clerk, served with SIM in Zambia for two years and was a dean at Peace River Bible Institute in Sexsmith, Alta. for 1 year. She has a B.A. in biblical studies from Peace River Bible Institute, and a certificate in teaching English as a Second Language from Providence College in Otterburne, Man.



Ken Neufeld began serving a quarter-time one-year pastoral internship at Fraserview MB Church, Richmond, B.C. on Sept. 1 through the B.C. MB Conference Pastoral Apprenticeship program. He served at the church on a government contract April-July 2000. He runs a Grade 6/7 pre-teen club at the church and is a Bible study leader and a youth leader. He is also studying at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford, B.C. In summer 1992 he did a mission trip to Mexico. He has also studied at Briercrest Bible College in Caronport, Sask. and at Northwest Baptist Theological College in Langley, B.C. He is engaged to Lisa Walker; they plan to marry next summer.

Frank Wiens, moderator of Scott Street MB Church in St. Catharines, Ont., welcomed Paul J. and Betty Fast to the church at a Sept. 10 commissioning service. The Fasts are serving as interim pastor couple. Previously, they assisted MB churches in Lake Errock, Mission and Surrey, B.C., and pastored three MB churches in Langley, B.C.: South Langley MB Church for nine-and-a-half years, North Langley Community Church for seven years and Murrayville Community Church for four years. Paul also taught public school for 15 years and taught at Bethany Bible Institute in Hepburn, Sask. for two years (See MBH, Sept. 22).



Woodrow (Sask.) Gospel Chapel baptized Michelle Engel on Feb. 13 and welcomed her into membership.



Elm Creek (Man.) MB Church baptized Ian Klassen and Teresa Friesen on Apr. 23 and welcomed them into membership.



On Oct. 1, Dalhousie MB Community Church in Calgary baptized Celianne Dyck, Nick Loewen, Bev Lummis and Andy Palaschuk and welcomed them into membership.



Lanigan (Sask.) Christian Fellowship said farewell to pastor couple Abe and Kathy Klassen and their sons Justin and Jason on July 30. The Klassens served at the church for seven years. They are now serving at Steinbach (Man.) MB Church Sept. 1 (see MBH, Sept. 8). The Lanigan congregation held a fellowship lunch and then met in the sanctuary in the afternoon, where appreciation was expressed to the Klassens for their love and concern. Ralph Gliege, director of church ministries for the Saskatchewan MB Conference, and his wife Grace were present. Dennis Huebert, chair of the pastoral care board, emceed the service. Tributes to the Klassens were given by Brian Schmidt, LouAnn Wiens, Charity Thiessen, Arlene Martin, Wayne Schmidt and David Pollock. Pat Carty, representing the Lanigan ministerial, spoke of Abe’s working relationship with the other pastors from the area. The church’s men’s trio, consisting of Wayne Schmidt, David Pollock and Dennis Huebert, sang. After Ralph Gliege’s encouraging words to the Klassens, the church gathered around them for a time of prayer, asking God to bless them with a fruitful ministry in Steinbach.



Esther Epp-Tiessen is serving as Peace Ministries Coordinator for Mennonite Central Committee Canada. Previously, she worked for MCC Ontario, first with the Family Violence Program and then directing the Peace and Social Concerns Program. She served on the MCC Canada Board 1986-91, and worked with her husband Dan for MCC in the Philippines 1982-86. She has an M.A. in history and wrote a biography of J.J. Thiessen, a western Canadian Mennonite leader. Epp-Tiessen replaces Tom Snowdon, who, along with his wife Judith, recently became MCC representatives in eastern Canada.



Mennonite Central Committee Canada’s Youth Internship Program (YIP) gives young adults an opportunity to serve with MCC overseas for up to one year in assignments that match their vocational interests and develop their skills. YIP is open to recent Canadian university or college graduates aged 20-30 who are not currently working in their field of training. The program is sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). Amanda Morgan of Chilliwack, B.C. is working at the YWCA’s Women’s Shelter in Lusaka, Zambia. She previously was youth director at Columbia Bible Camp in British Columbia. She has a degree in psychology from the University of British Columbia. She attends Broadway MB Church in Chilliwack. Kristy Wedel of Mt. Lehman, B.C. is working as an environmental researcher and educator with Central American Study and Service (CASAS) in Guatemala. Previously, she was a park facility operator at Haynes Point Provincial Park in Osoyoos, B.C. She has a diploma in recreation fish and wildlife technologies from Selkirk College in Castlegar, B.C. She attends Northview Community Church in Abbotsford, B.C.
