The Canadian MB Conference Board of Christian Education Ministries has appointed Sharon Johnson executive director, effective September 1. She replaces David Wiebe who has moved into the position of executive director of the Canadian Conference. She will be based in Ontario and will have regular contact with the Winnipeg office. The Board announced the appointment at the Canadian MB Conference convention this summer in Hepburn, Sask.

Johnson has been involved with CE ministries for many years. She and her husband Mark have been pastor couple at Glencairn MB Church in Kitchener, Ont., for the past nine years and previously were pastor couple at Carman (Man.) MB Church for eight years. Sharon also worked as CE and childrens ministries director at the Glencairn church for three years and served as chair of the Ontario Board of Church Ministries for three years.

Johnson has an M.A. in Christian education from MB Biblical Seminary in Fresno, Calif. She received her teacher training at Brock University in St. Catharines. She has been on the CEM Board for seven years, where she has been vice-chair and was interim chair for one year. As part of the childrens ministries development team for five years, she helped create the Life Steps Plan and Life Steps Family Plan. She is currently involved in prayer and community development outreach ministries at the Glencairn church.

The Johnsons have three teenage children.

Sherryl Koop of Winnipeg has been appointed half-time youth ministry director for CE ministries, effective September 1. This new position was approved at the Canadian MB Conference convention in summer. The creation of this position will enable Sharon Johnson to focus more effectively on developing strategies for childrens and adult ministries.

Koop will direct the National Youth Convention and lead Y Net, a network of MB youth ministry coaches in each province who mentor youth pastors and sponsors. As youth director, she will equip and mentor these point people, recruit and expand the network.

Previously, Koop worked with Youth for Christ in Winnipeg for 16 years. She is a charter member of McIvor Ave. MB Church, where she has served in various leadership capacities, including Sunday school teacher, deacon, college and career leader, youth sponsor and worship leader. Currently, she is a mentor to the churchs youth pastor, preaches occasionally, helps lead a small care group and assists with leadership training for the churchs youth ministries.

Koop will be working out of the Canadian MB Conference offices in Winnipeg as well as pursuing her other job as a travel consultant. from releases
