Mennonite Benevolent Society met June 10 for its 47th annual meeting in Abbotsford, B.C. Chaplain Doris Rempel reminded the assembly that the “work of God is a healing ministry” and that Jesus said, “ ‘Go and do likewise’ ”. This is the vision of the Society and the Board of Directors.

Board chair Frank Letkeman told of the initiatives taken during the past year: a cost sharing agreement was made between MBS and Tabor Home, another long-term care facility for seniors in Abbotsford, relating to Menno Home administrator Arthur Enns; a 50th anniversary book is to be published in 2003, with Les Friesen taking leadership; and a new MBS logo was designed that evokes a sense of protection based on a solid foundation for those under MBS’s care.

- Menno Hospital administrator Gerald Neufeld noted the retirement of Joan Olson, director of resident care for many years. She has been replaced by Ev Brown, who has worked in the Simon Fraser Health Region.

- Arthur Enns reported that there has been almost a doubling of the number of Alzheimer patients at Menno Home.

- Menno Terrace, a newly constructed independent living building is almost full; the new caretaker couple is Darrel and Mandy Klassen, former missionaries to Ecuador.
