101 Devotionals With Children is a collection of concise readings for the family with elementary-aged children. This is an excellent devotional book for the family needing something to fit into a busy schedule.

Each day begins with a Bible verse. The stories are very short, ending with a brief prayer and thought. I found the content easy to read and the topics interesting. However, some stories did not fit with the biblical application, and I found myself rereading to see if I had missed something. In these cases, the author should have used the obvious application rather than stretching for something else. Still, the modern day portions are enjoyable. For the most part, the essence of the stories are applied appropriately with the Bible lesson. There is also an international flavour that is very refreshing and immensely important for today’s kids.

This book would make great bedtime stories for younger children or, for a quick spiritual focus for both parents and children, this devotional book offers a headstart to your day.
Robyn Dueck is director of children’s ministries at Willingdon Church, Burnaby, B.C., and a mother of three.
