Letters to the editor

Mennonite Brethren Herald welcomes your letters on issues relevant to the Mennonite Brethren Church, especially in response to material published in the Herald. Please keep your letters courteous, brief and about one subject only. We will edit letters for length and clarity. We will not publish letters sent anonymously, although we may withhold names from publication at the request of the letter writer and at our discretion. Publication is also subject to space limitations. Because the Letters column is a free forum for discussion, it should be understood that letters represent the position of the letter writer, not necessarily the position of the Herald or the Mennonite Brethren Church. Send letters to:

Provocative

The series of issues on the church has been a wholesome, frank discussion of the wide range of views present in this diverse conference.

Second, re the letter Conference Right (May 12): Surely it could be within the editorial prerogative to refuse to print such a blatantly provocative letter. I cant help wondering how few steps remain between printing this letter and the tabloids we so easily disdain. Open informed dialogue on any theological issue can be valuable, but not these potshots.

Irony

We enjoyed Isaac Dycks tongue in cheek letter (May 12), in which he exposes some of our prejudices and practices.

Irony can be a useful tool to expose our foibles and pride.

Thanks to church

My wife and I have moved to Ontario and have been accepted into the fellowhip of a Bible-believing Baptist church. We wish to express our thanks for the fellowship of many years in Bakerview MB Church, also for the enrichment we found in the MB Herald.

God said it and I believe it

I am writing in support of Biblical exhortations (Letters, May 12). I wrote a letter to you a year or two ago regarding homosexuality. There has been correspondence printed nearly every month since then on the same topic. I conclude that this topic weighs heavily on many Christians hearts.

Last week, on a Focus on the Family broadcast, James Dobson made a plea for Christians to condemn homosexual practices. I make the same plea to all MB Herald readers and followers of Christ. We cannot become complacent and let society dictate that homosexual practices and marriages and even gay clergymen are OK. God says clearly (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) that homosexuality is a sin and He will not accept those who remain unrepentant of their sin in His Kingdom. We have a responsibility to God to cry out against what is wrong.
