Don Taylor has been serving a one-year term as interim college and career pastor at Waterloo (Ont.) MB Church since Aug. 1, 1999. Previously, he taught grade 8 English, math and history/geography and grades 4-8 music with the Avon-Maitland District School Board. He and his wife Jean have led worship in the Waterloo church for the past five years. He has a B.A. in music from the University of Waterloo, a B.Ed. from the University of Western Ontario, London, and a three-year applied music diploma from Mohawk College, Hamilton, Ont.
Tim Champ has resigned as worship and administration pastor at Broadway MB Church, Chilliwack, B.C., effective at the end of February. He began serving in that area part-time in 1997 and then full-time in January 1998. He and his wife Christyn have three children, Sarah, 9, Rachel, 6, and Lucas, 4. They are considering options for the future, including exploring the idea of church planting.
Karen Heidebrecht Thiessen has resigned as pastor of River East MB Church, Winnipeg, effective June 30, after serving 10 years. She has a B.R.S. from MB Bible (Concord) College, a B.A. from the University of Winnipeg and an M.Div. from MB Biblical Seminary, Fresno, Calif. Her husband Richard has resigned as librarian at Concord College and has accepted the position of director of library services at Columbia Bible College, Abbotsford, B.C., effective Aug. 17. The Thiessens have three sons, Abram, 7, Solomon, 3, and Isaac, 11 months. Karen is open to further ministry.
Johnny Markin has accepted a call to be pastor of worship and the arts at Northview Community Church, Abbotsford, B.C., effective June 30. He has been a youth pastor in England for past 12 years. He also was involved in itinerant music and evangelism ministries. He is an international recording artist with two worship albums. He has a B.A. from Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, B.C. He and his wife Darlene have two children, Daniel, 5, and Jennifer, 2.
Eldon Fehr has resigned as pastor of Borden (Sask.) MB Church, effective at the end of April, after serving for six years. He has accepted a call to be associate pastor at Richmond (B.C.) Bethel MB Church, effective May 1. Previously, he was an intern at West Portal MB Church, Saskatoon. He has a B.A. from Briercrest Bible College, Caronport, Sask. He and his wife Marcy have two children, Jessica, 6, and Joshua, 4.
Grant Gordon is serving as intentional interim pastor at Kitchener (Ont.) MB Church, assisting the church through a transition period. For 30 years, he pastored three Baptist churches in Ontario. He was director of supervised ministries at Ontario Theological (now Tyndale) Seminary for eight years and was a lecturer of Baptist history. He also served as intentional interim senior pastor for two-and-a-half years at Grace Church in Newmarket, Ont. He is a volunteer mediator with St. Stephens Conflict Resolution Services in Toronto; is a member of the Society for Conflict Resolution in Ontario, The Network: Interaction for Conflict Resolution at Conrad Grebel College; and has been involved with Mennonite and Brethren in Christ Conciliation Services. He has a B.Th. from Tyndale College, an M.Div. from Gordon Conwell Seminary near Boston and an M.Th. and a D.Min. from Princeton Theological Seminary. His wife Margaret has an M.Div. in counselling from Tyndale Seminary. He and Margaret are part of the Chartwell Marriage Enrichment team. Margaret is a chaplain of York County Hospital, Newmarket, Ont. They have three children and two grandchildren.
Allan Labun is retiring as senior pastor of Kitchener (Ont.) MB Church at the end of September, after serving for six years. Previously, he pastored McIvor Ave. MB Church in Winnipeg for over 17 years and was associate pastor at North Kildonan MB Church in Winnipeg for two years. He also was a high school teacher for 11 years in Winnipeg, and in Malaysia with the Canadian International Development Agency. He has a B.A. and a B.Ed. from the University of Manitoba, an M.Div. from MB Biblical Seminary, Fresno, Calif., and a D.Min. from Denver Conservative Baptist Seminary. He is open to interim pastoral assignments. He and his wife Irene have three children and three grandchildren.
Joel Feddersen began serving half-time as pastor of the junior high ministry in Willow Park MB Church, Kelowna, B.C. in September 1999. He has studied at Okanagan University College and is working to complete his degree. He is married to Melissa.
Glendon Wiebe began serving a one-year pastoral internship June 1, 1999 in the area of youth ministries at Willow Park MB Church, Kelowna, B.C. His salary is partially covered by the B.C. MB Conference Pastoral Apprenticeship program. This fall, he will be returning to his studies at Trinity Western University, Langley, B.C. He is married to Allison.
Mike Penninga began serving a general pastoral internship in September 1999 at Willow Park MB Church, Kelowna, B.C., his home church, under the B.C. MB Conference Pastoral Apprenticeship program. He has a bachelors degree from Trinity Western University. Langley, B.C. He has been active in church and camping ministries.
Matt Boldt has been serving as intern worship pastor at Mountain Park Community Church in Abbotsford, B.C. since Oct. 31 through the B.C. MB Conference Pastoral Apprenticeship program. He and his wife Marrilee are from South Langley (B.C.) MB Church. Matt has studied at Columbia Bible College, Abbotsford, B.C. and Trinity Western University, Langley. B.C. He is considering further studies.
Paul Wicki began a half-time pastoral apprenticeship under the B.C. MB Conference program at Northside Community Church in Mission, B.C. on Feb. 1. The ministry assignment, primarily in the area of music, is for a one-year term. His home church is Westwood MB Church, Prince George, B.C. He is a graduate of Columbia Bible College, Abbotsford, B.C. He also works part-time with MCC Supportive Care Services and teaches violin part-time.
Dan Dyck has been hired as director of communications for Mennonite Church Canada, effective Apr. 17. He will be responsible for developing an overall communications plan and strategy, overseeing the publication of resources, producing communication materials, enhancing electronic communications and advising other staff in the area of communications. Previously, he worked nine years at Prairie Agricultural Machinary Institute, Portage la Prairie, Man., where he was responsible for writing, design, Web site construction, technical illustration and photography. He has a certificate in communications from the University of Winnipeg and certificates in audio-visual media production and architectural and electrical drafting from Red River Community College in Winnipeg. He and his wife Laura have two daughters.
Ron Rempel has accepted another five-year term as editor/manager of Canadian Mennonite, periodical of Mennonite Church Canada. At its annual meeting Feb. 11-12, the Mennonite Publishing Service Board made the reappointment based on the findings of a Performance Review Committee. The committee received responses to questionnaires from 52 persons. Separate sets of questions were sent to four constituency groups: board members, staff and area editors, correspondents and writers, and conference and congregational leaders. Rempel has served as editor/manager for Mennonite Reporter and its successor Canadian Mennonite for 20 years.
Gordon Epp-Fransen has been appointed vice-president of administration and finance for Mennonite College Federation in Winnipeg, effective June 1. Previously, he has served as treasurer for Mennonite Church Canada for the past few years.
Edgar Rempel began serving as vice-president of development for Mennonite College Federation in Winnipeg on March 6. Previously, he was the owner/operator of a computer business for a year and was national director of Mennonite Foundation of Canada for nine years.
Morna Christian has been appointed registrar for Mennonite College Federation in Winnipeg, effective May 1. She has been director of admissions and student records at Concord College since 1994, and was administrative assistant at the College 1991-94. This appointment puts the registrarial duties of the three MCF partners (Concord College, Canadian Mennonite Bible College and Menno Simons College) in one office.
Harold Haak has been appointed interim president of Fresno (Calif.) Pacific University. Haak takes over from Allan Carden who resigned in January. Haak was president of California State University, Fresno, 1980-91, where he currently is a professor of political science. Previously at CSFU, Haak was interim senior vice-chancellor for academic affairs, academic vice-president and professor in the joint doctoral program in educational leadership with the University of California, Davis. He was also chancellor and professor of public affairs at the University of Colorado at Denver and dean of the college of professional studies at San Diego State University. He has bachelors and masters degrees in political science from the University of Wisconsin and a Ph.D. in political science from Princeton University. FPU is owned by the Pacific District MB Conference and has an enrollment of 1,800 students.
